Blu (formerly Sawyer) originally came to the program on August 11, 2017. He is a 2-3 year old Blue Tick Hound. He was adopted in November but unfortunately it was not a good fit, so he is returning to the program on December 15, 2017. If you are interested in adopting Blu, please contact his rescue (Friends Fur Life Rescue) at email@example.com.
Week 1. Blu has been back in the program for about a week since being returned from his adopter. His handler says that Blu is not the same dog that left the prison about a month ago. He has no behavior problem with either people or other dogs. With respect to his good manners, Blu still does the same things that he was taught before being adoped; sit, wait, stay, etc. He does need work on his leash walking. He still enjoys chasing his ball and still plays with everyone. As far as his handler can see, everything is good with Blu, so he's continuing with normal training and waiting to see how things come along with him (any new issues). His handler also says "I can't put my finger on what is wrong with Blu; there is something very different about him. It's like he's very laid back". So for now, his handler will continue to work with him to get him back to the same fun loving Blu.
Week 2. Blu is coming along very well. His handler says he is just about back to his old self, which is a VERY GOOD THING! Blu's behavior is continuing to improve. He did have a small run-in with one of the new dogs, but other than that, everything is good. Regarding his good manners, his handler says "Old boy always had god manners and he still does everything that is asked of him". He still loves to run, which his handler believes he was not allowed to do, which may have contributed to why he was returned. Blu is very energetic and really needs his time to run and play. His handler says he believes in a few more weeks Blu will be back to his old happy-go-lucky self!
Week 3. Blu is almost back to being Blu!! As we all know Blu is not a bad dog. Blu has been reactive to some of the male dogs which he did not exhibit when he first arrived in the program :-( This week Blu's behavior and interaction has been very, very good. Blu's handler states "Blu gets along with everybody, but if anyone is considering adopting him, PROPER INTRODUCTION and FOLLOW THROUGH is imperative, as it is with any new dog coming into a home with a resident dog. He is getting better with some of the male dogs.
Week 4. No journal this week.
Week 5. Blu continues to progress, although he now loves to tear up his bed. Not sure why he is doing this (maybe a little separation anxiety has surfaced) but all in all Blu is doing well. He's great with people and most of the other dogs. There is still some reactivity to a couple of the other dogs in the program. His handler is continuing to work with him on that and the chewing issue. His manners are good, but he still needs to work on his leash walking. Sometimes he's perfect and sometimes he just wants to pull. His handler is continuing to work hard to alleviate the few issues he has. He really is a great dog and loves to be outside where he can "flush" the birds in the bushes!
Week 6. Blu is coming along just fine. He's just about back to his old self again and that is a GOOD THING!! His handler says there is nothing bad he can say about Blu. He just a good dog, plain and simple. And he gets along with people and most of the other dogs in the program. Blu always had good manners and they are still intact. The only thing that he needs to work on is leash leash walking. Blu is the kind of dog that loves to be outside running around. He would definitely need a good size yard so he can run around and be a dog!! He also loves to hug people. That's how he shows affection!
Week 7. Blu is doing great and ready to find his real furever home. His leash walking has really improved. Blu is just a happy, active dog that loves to play. He is very vocal dog and will need lots of exercise. But he is ready and waiting for that special someone who will give him all the love and care he so deserves.
Week 8. Blu continues to do well in all aspects of his training and behavior. Blu is a happy dog who just needs an active human companion/family who will love him and give him the time and exercise he needs. He is ready to be paroled.
Week 9. Sweet, wonderful Blu continues to wait for his furever home. He is such a wonderful, happy dog who loves to interact with people and just be what he is--a Blue Tick Hound Dog!!! He needs a home that will give him the necessary exercise a dog of his breed needs. He has great manners, is a funny guy, and has the best hound "bay" ever. He loves to flush birds out of the bushes (of course). His handler says whoever adopts Blu needs to know "what kind of dog Blue is. They will have to be able to love the sound that's going to come out of his mouth" :-) :-)
Week 10. Blu continues to wait for a family of his own. He will do anything that is asked of him. He knows all his cues/commands, does well with most of the other dogs (there are a couple that react to him and he in turn reacts to them). He is a wonderful, friendly, active boy who will needs lots of exercise. Blu's handler, regarding interesting behavior: "interesting behavior is always the same. He just loves to meet people and give them hugs. That's right. Blu is a big hugger. I've never seen anything like it". That's our boy Blu! Blu really needs someone who will take charge, continue working with him, give him the exercise he needs, and just love him. He really is an extremely intelligent dog.
