Ladie is a female 2 yr old Aussie/Collie mix. She arrived in the program on Wednesday, 27 Dec 2017. If you would be interested in adopting Ladie after she completes the program, please contact Linda Domer at email@example.com or 301-800-6012.
Week 1. Ladie is doing well around other dogs. She's still shy around people. She is very friendly, loves playing with the other dogs and loves to be rubbed. This first week, her handler has not seen any type of people or dog reactivity and no resource guarding. She has started working on her cues/commands and leash walking.
Week 2. Ladie is doing much better this week. She is starting to open up more towards people, but still has trust issues, albeit they are improving. Once she warms up to you she is fine. She's still jumpy when she hears something new around her without seeing it. Ladie contines to play well with the other dogs. Her handler is teaching cues/commands and works on something new every day, and is doing very well with her nose work. She is happiest when she is playing with the other dogs.
Week 3. No journal this week.
Week 4. Ladie is progressing extremely well. She is doing much better when she is around a lot of people, although she is still a little shy. One-on-one she is a happy-go-lucky girl and loves any and all attention, including body and belly rubs. She has no issues with resource guarding (food or toys). She is great with all her cues/commands, but still needs work on her leash walking. And Ladie adores all the other dogs, especially Sully, who we believe she thinks is her baby :-) Her perfect adopter would be someone who can give her the time and exercise she needs. Her handler thinks she would do very well with a pre-teen or teenager.
Week 5. Ladie finally met all the new dogs and everything went great! She loves to play with every one of them.. She still is a little shy around new people but warms up fairly quickly. Ladie needs to know she can trust you when she first meets new people. After that, she is such a loving and affectionate dog. She still is a bit timid when all the people are out and moving around in the housing unit, but her handler is working with her all day, every day. She loves affection and will lean into you to get rubbed. Ladie doesn't particularly caare about toys. She prefers interacting with the other dogs and people she knows. Her progress is steady and on target.
Week 6. Ladie is doing well and beginning to open up more when meeting new people. She still acts a little timid and shy at first meeting but warms up quickly. She is happiest when playing with the other dogs. Her handler says she's still a little stubborn :-) but he is perservering with her cues/commands training. Ladie is not a toy-driven dog but would rather play with the other dogs, which, if allowed, she would do for hours. She really is a sweet girl and once she knows she can trust you, she will take any and all the affection you can give her.
Week 7. This week Ladie is showing great progress in becoming more open and less shy around new people. She really loves playing with all the dogs. Her handler says she's still a little slow with her cues/commands, but he continues working with her every day. She also is great at her nose work. Apparently she has acquired the reputation of the "Unit Diva" in the housing unit :-)
Week 8. Ladie is continuing to show progress. She interacts extremely well with the male dogs but not so much with the females (not unusual). She is continuing to work on her cues/commands and leash walking, which is improving. She much prefers to play with the dogs than toys. She is an energetic girl who would need lots of exercise. And she is showing great improvement with her "trust" issues of people she doesn't know.
Week 9. Sweet, sweet Ladie is such a wonderful girl. She is becoming more open towards interacting with new people. She loves to play with the other dogs (and she can play with the big guys) and she has this face that just looks like she is always smiling. She's a happy girl who is really starting to blossom in the program. She gets excited easily. Her handler is still working with her on her cues/commands, as she tends to lose focus in favor of playing, and she occasionally shows that she still has trust issues with new people, although she has shown remarkable improvement in that area. Once she is familiar with you, she's a friend for life.
Week 10. Ladie is becoming more open towards new people. She still has some minor trust issues with strangers but showing improvement every day. She has shown great progress and shows little reactivity to new people. She is still working on her cues/commands. She shows no signs of resource guarding. She does much better with the male dogs than the female dogs, especially if they are barking.
Week 11. It appears Ladie has broken out of her "shy shell". She is excited with people and wants to interact with them. She will bark at a person to get them to play with her or rub her. She is showing great progress. She would much rather play with people or other dogs than toys/balls. She loves the interaction.
